About JDI

How do we work?

The JDI ethos shies away from the idea of making nameless donations to organisations where you can’t see how you money is spent, or from encouraging dependency by giving cash to individuals who are sometimes unable to spend it properly. Instead members are encouraged to ‘See. Think. Do’.

Initially a group is formed by people who want to get involved and make positive changes – these people can be friends, colleagues, family, professionals, students – it doesn’t matter at all. A direct debit is set up, enabling any monthly amount of money from each person’s account to accumulate in the JDI central account. The group then has a substantial amount to support a project of their choosing. This could be buying bunk beds for a home for abused children; soccer boot and balls for a organisation that encourages youths into sport and away from gangs; linking small struggling businesses in the townships with professionals who can assist; or providing plants and equipment to a garden-greening project that works to transform wastelands in poverty-stricken areas into peace parks and vegetable gardens….the choice is endless, and up to each individual JDI group.

If a group wants help finding a project to support, they can browse the projects page on the website or contact central admin for advice. Likewise, if another group has found a new project that they want to help, they can post it on the webpage and even contact other groups if they are looking for extra funding.

JDI operates as a constant organic whole, mobilising people to work to their strengths and assist where they can, and providing a central arena where people all over the world can come together to make positive changes to those who really need it.
